VT Halter Marine Holds Dedication Ceremony for Egyptian Navy Fast Missile Craft

Edward Szeto - Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Pascagoula, Miss., October 25, 2011 -- VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine), a subsidiary of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), held a dedication ceremony for the first of four Fast Missile Craft (FMC) built for the Egyptian Navy at its Pascagoula shipyard. The keel for this first FMC was authenticated on April 7, 2010.

The vessel, S. Ezzat, is named after Admiral Soliman Ezzat, Commander in Chief of the Egyptian Navy from 1953 to 1967. Admiral Soliman Ezzat is known as the founder of the modern Egyptian Navy. Under his command, he expanded, modernized, and upgraded the Egyptian Navy with more capable destroyers, missile boats, submarines and mine warfare platforms. Under his leadership, the Egyptian Naval Forces officer and enlisted personnel underwent continuous training and joint operational missions with forces outside of Egypt to enhance their capabilities.

The FMC is designed to perform coastal patrol, surveillance, interdiction, surface strike and naval battle group support. The vessels will allow the Republic of Egypt to maintain security of its coastal regions for the country and its friendly countries, while denying access to the areas by any potential adversaries. Each FMC will be approximately 62m in length and will incorporate ship signature control technology. High speed and maneuverability are two of the ships primary assets to fulfill these roles. The vessels will also incorporate numerous combat system assets and electronic sensors, equipping the vessels with capabilities in anti-aircraft, anti-surface and electronic warfare.

Pasha Hawaii Cuts Steel for Second Vessel

Edward Szeto - Tuesday, August 09, 2011

August 9, 2011 -- Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii today announced the MV Marjorie C's first steel plate was cut, launching the official start of construction for the company's second vessel. The steel was cut at VT Halter Marine's shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. The Marjorie C is on schedule to deliver in the fall of 2013 when she will enter the Mainland/Hawaii trade lane. She will sail opposite Pasha Hawaii's Pure Car Truck Carrier, MV Jean Anne, enabling Pasha to provide weekly service to Hawaii.

This is the second vessel built by VT Halter Marine for Pasha Hawaii based on a proven design by Uljanik Shipyard, Croatia. The Marjorie C will be a combination Container and Roll-On/Roll-Off Car Truck Carrier (ConRo) with the ability to carry 1,500 TEUs, above and under deck, as well as vehicles and over high and wide cargo on 10 workable decks. The 692 feet long vessel will have a vehicle shipping capacity of 2,750 units. The stern quarter ramp will be 39.4' wide and 20.7' high, and rated at up to 250 metric tons.

"We are very eager to take delivery of the Marjorie C, and cutting her steel ahead of schedule marks the first milestone in our construction journey," said Pasha Hawaii's President and CEO, George Pasha IV. "The Marjorie C's unique ConRo design represents a 'first' for the Jones Act trade, and I am very pleased to report that our design process is complete and we are now underway with construction." George continues, "I want to recognize the efforts of the great team at VT Halter Marine, as well as the teams at Sea Technology and Uljanik, for their guidance and support in achieving this important first milestone."

"We at VT Halter Marine are proud to have accomplished this significant milestone of the Marjorie C," said Bill Skinner, CEO of VT Halter Marine. "She will be a great ship for a great company and we are very proud to be associated with Pasha Hawaii. We look forward to working with George IV and his fine team on this project and future vessels as they expand their fleet. Were truly appreciative of this opportunity."

The MV Marjorie C will be the second vessel to join Pasha Hawaii's fleet, and will allow the company to provide weekly service between the West Coast and Hawaii. The ship's base price is $144 million. The company also has an option agreement for the construction of a third vessel with a base price of $137 million.

The MV Jean Anne, Pasha's first vessel, was put into service in March 2005 and was designated the "Ship of the Year" by American Ship Review that year. Now in her seventh year of service, she recently celebrated her 150th voyage. The Jean Anne, her crew, and vessel operations have been recognized by the Chamber of Shipping of America with awards for outstanding safety and environmental achievement.

VT Halter Marine Deliver the Final of Ten Articulated Tug Barge Units for Crowley Maritime

Edward Szeto - Friday, July 15, 2011

Pascagoula, Miss., July 15, 2011 -- VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine), a subsidiary of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), today announced a significant milestone with the delivery of the final in a series of ten 185,000-barrel articulated tug barge (ATB) units built for Crowley Maritime Corporation's subsidiary, Vessel Management Services, Inc. (Vessel Management Services). Since construction of the first unit in 2005, all ten 185,000-barrel barges have been built at VT Halter Marines Pascagoula Operations while the 9,700-hp tugs were built at its Moss Point Marine Operations.

Barge 650-10, like its sister vessels (650-1 thru 650-9), is certified by ABS Classification Society to comply with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Green Passport program. Additionally, 650-10 has a Crude Oil Washing (COW) system whereby oil tanks are cleaned out with crude oil, instead of water; which makes the cleaning process far more effective. The COW system is mandatory on new tankers under the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution by Ships (the MARPOL Convention). All of Crowley's ATBs are built under the ABS SafeHull program for environmental protection.

The 650-Class barge measures 587 feet in length, 74 feet in breadth, and 40 feet in depth. It has a fully-loaded draft of 30 feet and a 27,000 dwt capacity. VT Halter Marine has a separate contract with Vessel Management Services to design and build three 330,000-barrel, 750 series ATB barges.

"We are pleased to take delivery of the tenth ATB in this program. These vessels represent the very successful partnership established between VT Halter Marine and Crowley through the past years and we look forward to continuing this relationship with the deliveries to come in the next series of vessels."
~ Ed SCHLUETER
Vice President, Vessel Management Services, Crowley Maritime

"The delivery of the tenth 650 Class ATB is a significant milestone for VT Halter Marine. We are proud of our long standing partnership with Crowley--a professional and well respected company--and look forward to also delivering the series of 750 Class ATBs."
